METS Testing Explained

"METS eliminates the guess work involved in weight loss by accurately assessing and evaluating your metabolism, body composition and weight."

Our programmes incorporate a series of body and energy measurements that provide our practitioners with a number of key physiological parameters. The following section explains our technology, testing and protocol in more detail.

Metabolism Testing

Metabolism testing involves a 5-10 minute breath analysis, in a semi reclined position (see image). During the test we would like you to relax and breathe as normally as possible through the mouthpiece.

Key parameters assessed are listed below and allows our practitioners to individualise our programmes based on our clients unique metabolism.

  • Resting Metabolic Rate (Calories) - Is your metabolism fast or slow?
  • Fuel Utilisation (Fat vs Glucose) - Are you burning the right fuels for weight loss?
  • Energy Efficiency (%) - How efficient are your cells?
About ECAL

ECAL is a portable indirect calimeter which is used to measure human metabolism. It has been developed specifically for clinical practice by METS parent company Lionstar Technologies. Designed and built in Australia it has full TGA approval as a medical device, so you can be certain of its accuracy.ECAL measures your oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production so that we can measure your unique calorie needs, what fuels are being used (fat or carbhydrate) and how efficient you are at producing energy. Indirect calorimetry is the only accurate methos of energy measurement avaiable to clinics.

Body Composition

Body composition testing requires you to lie on your back and allow us to attach some electrodes to your wrist and ankle (see image).

Key parameters assessed are listed below and allows our practitioners to ensure that weight loss is from fat not muscle. Muscle maintenance is key for long term weight management and chronic disease management.

  • Fat Mass
  • Active Tissue Mass
  • Hydration Status
About DF50

The DF50 is a device used to clinically assess body composition by running a single frequency current through the body. The procedure is harmless and only takes a few seconds. Information gathered from the DF50 includes fat mass, active tissue mass and hydration status.
